Wow! A decade has passed…that is 10 years if you are mathematically challenged like me.
How have things changed since the good old days of 2000.
Back then:
I was a new teacher who thought I had all the answers. I’m still a teacher but now I realize that I don’t have any answers and most days I don’t know the questions. Middle schoolers will do that to you!
I was wrapped up in my own little universe with no children....free to structure my days as I wished. Now, I have two beautiful daughters, lead K-1 Girl Scout Daisies, and sit on the sidelines during cheer practice.
Misty, Malibu, BC and Tabs were still in the house. Now I have one dog and two old cats.
I didn’t blog or design websites or participate in forum discussions. I didn’t know what Facebook was and Twitter hadn't been invented yet (thankfully!).
I didn’t have a cell phone, but my pager was pretty cool. Not that anyone ever paged me…. no one really ever calls me on my cell now for that fact.
I had a computer (because I had to have one for college), but it was slower than …….well slow. Now I have two desktops and two laptops and I TEACH computers.
I used to read the newspaper and look forward to the mail arriving, now I read the Internet news and keep tabs on my 5 email accounts.
Books came in hard back or soft. Now I hope they are in pdf format for my ebook reader.
Gas, milk, and bread was cheap, but I took it all for granted. I could feed my husband and I for $50 a week. Not so much anymore.
I had a few credit cards and wish I had stopped there. I'll spend the next decade fixing that.
What will I face in the next decade?
For me, the next 10 years means I will be almost 50 (how is that possible?!?), celebrate 25 years of marriage and my daughters will start to drive, date, and one will graduate high school. I hope they will both want to be a part of the Gator Nation :)
Sigh! I hope for the next decade goes a little slower than this one did.
